Development at No. 10

Harnessing internal expertise

Summary

A high performing business unit in No10 were experiencing some challenging issues around teamworking.

These centered around:-

  • A lack of trust between team members and the leadership team
  • Poor communication
  • Role confusion.

This resulted in a sense of disengagement across the team.

Action Taken

CHMLN were approached and asked to pull together a programme of training and activity that would help to resolve these issues.

Amy from CHMLN prepared an extensive package of measures focussing on embracing teamwork, building team cohesion and how to manage change effectively.

The work was delivered over the course of a few months using methods such as:-

  • Team awaydays
  • Individual coaching sessions.

More sessions are planned for the future.

Outcome

Several working groups have been set up in the team to look at how to improve team culture.  This is proving to be very successful with a number of initiatives in the pipeline. These include:-

  • Some analysis of current working practices
  • Working to improve the team ICT environment
  • A project to improve team presence on the organisation intranet.

CHMLN have been asked to regularly measure the progress of these initiatives against the overall objective of improving team cohesion.
